Note book............

Chandu struck gold (at the box-office) with his previous movie 10th Class. Little wonder, he considers that to be talismanic. He has directed the movie Notebook under the banner of 10th Class Productions of Vellampally Prasad.

As the title suggests the film will be a love story set in an educational campus. This calf love kind of syndrome always has an attraction for the audience. And if told in a fresh-faced fashion will always do well at the box-office. Chandu, who knows a thing or two about mixing all the right ingredients, can be trusted to do the same thing here.

Rajiv, son of music director Koti, is the hero. He is full of enthusiasm and easy charm. Being his first movie, he is all raring to go. So is the heroine Gayatri. She was a child artist. Now she is graduating to the big league through Note Book. Chandu says the film has lot of comedy and plenty of appealing romance. The film had recently completed shooting. Presently re-recording is in progress under the direction of music director Mickey J Meyer.

Chandu, while talking about the inspiration for the movie, says, "During my student days, my friend got a love letter. It was not just a letter but a note book. In that book, the person who had given the note book had noted 'My expressions' on one side. The person who received that was to write matching expressions on the other side .I took that point as an inspiration and prepared the script." The Note Book, with all the ideas and emotions written on it, becomes a kind of leitmotif for the film.

Mickey J Meyer, who made his debut as music director through 10th Class is again scoring the tunes here. The audio has already hit the stands. Each and every individual in the society would note down their thoughts and feelings in a notebook is the basic theme of the film and it runs with village as its backdrop. The audio of the film was released recently to which Mickey J Meyer gave tunes. There are seven songs in this album. The film is set for release shortly.

Seenu, whose qualification is just 10th standard finds it difficult to get a job. But with the help of the father of Anjali’s friend, he finds an opportunity to conceptualize and shoot an ad. That turns successful and he grows rich in a very short time. Anjali conceives and gives birth to two kids.

But after a while, in an unfortunate accident, Seenu loses his wife and a kid. He decides to put an end to his life after putting his survived son in an orphanage. But a girl by name Sandhya (Sunayana) saves him. She also falls in love with him without knowing that he got married earlier. She likes his philanthropy and concern towards poor and needy. Finally, the truth gets revealed with the help of Seenu’s diary. Sandhya joins Seenu along with Anjali’s survived kid and there ends the film.

The messages conveyed in this film are

1. Not to just carry away by feelings of teenage
2. To have a responsible outlook towards wife and children
3. To have concern towards society

Criticisms on 10th class....

In his eagerness to placate the youth, the director of the movie 10th Class, has forgotten his social responsibilities and basic ethos of life. Pandering to such cheap ideas to please the young males shows the lack of character in movie making on part of the filmmaker.

The misdirected bravado with which the hero Bharat, expresses his love for a married woman, both in the face of the lady's lack of interest and in front of her husband, amounts to goondaism and is downright disgusting. Fine, if creativity requires that such a scene be depicted so be it. But the utter lack of remorse by the character and the handling of the entire issue glorifying it, are highly deplorable. The excuse that since the character is studying in 10th class and hence is immature to fully comprehend the implication of his actions is plausible. But the tragedy is, the issue is glorified and later in the movie, the hero refers to the married woman as a lover. The result: the young ones watching the movie go home with impression that it's alright (if studying in 10th Class) to barge in to somebody's house and profess love for a married woman in front of her husband and even threaten the husband.

Movies try to please the audience; there is nothing wrong in that. But movies should not digress from social norms. Filmmakers have a greater responsibility to ensure that good values are imparted through movies. In the eagerness to create sensationalism and attract audience it's pathetic that directors would stoop to such low levels.

Moreover there has been an attempt to preach in no uncertain terms that falling in love and eloping away from home is easy but then starting a family and sustaining it is difficult. But the movie does just the opposite of what it preaches. It shows that if you run away from your home you might end up getting help from a well-heeled friend, who would lend you a posh flat and her dad would offer a plum job as a director in making advertisements. Wonder if eloping and making advertisements are that easy.

In so many ways the movie 10th Class talks about good things. The Indian superstition sneezing only once before any action would prove to be inauspicious is rubbished in the movie. When a young girl falls in love with a married Srinu and confesses her feelings to her elder sister, there is good counsel followed by sane advice that prompts the girl to apologize. Quite appreciable and sends out the right signals to the young ones. The real life like depiction of the scenes is laudable too.

This is a good movie but for the depiction of unconscionable glorification of love by force under the pretext of immaturity.

This is a film that treads a different path altogether even in making a film collectively, for a cause. Even Chief Minister Rajasekhar Reddy is seen in a shot. TV9 Swapna plays a real life role in this. Stage artistes are there to play character roles. You will notice that two persons get elevated – director Bharadwaja for showing commitment for the subject and then Sindhu Tulani for playing the main role impressively. In fact, it is a risky subject for anyone to handle, because it involves two types of killers - police and naxalites. The objective behind this production seems to be to argue against the killings of innocents, generally caught up in cross fire. Even if you call it accident and express an apology for it; you cannot just brush it away saying it as an act committed for social cause. Then who would answer for the killing of an innocent?

The second argument is that of the hundred crore population, those who resort to bloodshed may not even cross one percent of it, which means a crore persons. The rest want nothing but peace. Then how can police or extremists support their cause as for the welfare of the society is the question, the film raises. The film is divided into two significant and contrasting parts, divided by an interval. If you watch the first part you can never guess what is going to happen in the second part of the drama. But the essence of the theme lies only in the second part. Chaitanya (Siva Balaji) and Shanti (Sindhu) are in constant focus. They are childhood friends and their trait is quarreling constantly over petty issues. But parents on either side hope they would marry one day. A third person named Siddarth (Dhanush), Shanti's office colleague, also loves her. When the parents ask Shanti to marry Chaitanya, she becomes adamant and says he is just a friend to her and nothing more. A situation is created then for her to stay away from Chaitanya. And this gap makes her feel for the first time that she is missing Chaitanya. She craves for his company and realizing that she cannot live without him, she travels back to her place and makes it known to Chaitanya. He too is a happy man. On his way to the bus stand to receive her, naxals shoot at a car in which a police officer is travelling. Some bullets hit Chaitanya and kill him instantly.

A shocked Shanti launches a legal war against the killers. Though the naxals express their apology, that won't satisfy her. She registers a case in a police station with the help of a journalist (Swapna). That is the time the government opens doors to naxalites for peace talks. She questions both the government and naxals how they are trying to escape from a crime they committed in murdering an innocent person, in the name of a social cause. There is a prolonged verbal drama, showing Shanti moving door to door fighting for justice. And the whole thing ends up as a kind of soul searching drama.

Chaitanya is projected first as a social worker who goes to the rescue of the needy. Though Shanti does not like it initially, she hugs him with sentimental touch, when he asks her "would you not come to my aid if I get hurt in an accident". Sindhu gets the best role of her career and she meets the demand by displaying good histrionic skills. Siva Balaji too gives a fine performance. Though his role is confined to the first half of the film, the entire film carries the feel of Sivabalaji's presence. Dhanush in the role of Siddarth, who too craves to wed Santi initially and settles finally as her friend and colleague in the war for justice, also impresses. There are many more roles. Theatre artistes fill some and do justice. Music is quite pleasant and supports the first part of the drama well. Dialogue is well written. The film is worth watching.

Wanna know about happy days of mickey.........

The 25 year old young music director Mickey J Mayer is widely appreciated for his
tunes in films pothe poni, 10th Class and Notebook. He is all set to get his big break now with Sekhar Kammula's Happy Days. Here is an interview of the young and
dynamic music director Mickey J Meyer......

What about ur background:
............................................

I was born and brought up in Hyderabad. I had been learning piano and violin since
childhood. I was also trained in Carnatic singing and used to sing Ghazals in All India Radio when I was a kid. After completing my fifth standard, I got admission into Trinity College of Music in London. I completed the 8 years music course from that esteemed music university. I completed music course in 2002 and I had been working on my music and practicing it for years.

Tell us about Trinity college of music?
................................................................

They teach western classical music in a systematic method using notations for eight
years each grade every year. In order to have expertise in music composing, one
should have thorough knowledge in western classical notations. It will be very helpful in BGM. Music directors like Harris Jayaraj and Yuan Shankar Raja graduated from this college. Ilayaraja completed his doctorate in this music college.
We are also trained to compose music using live orchestra where we pen the
notations and distribute among the musicians and let the conductor organize the
music in synchronization with the musicians. In Hollywood, everything in music is
done using notations.

How important is music college education for a music director?
.........................................................................................

AR Rehman gone to the stage of composing songs for UNO and Hollywood films like
Lord of the Rings. If we learn the music from the foundation level in music colleges, it shows in our work. And longevity is guaranteed as music schools teach us all aspects and hone our skills to give different music as per the genre of the films.

Who is ur inspiration?
......................

I grew up listening to the music of AR Rehman. I got addicted to film music
because of AR Rehman. I decided to take up the job of a music director for Telugu films. I approached Tammareddy Bharadwaja and he gave me a chance to compose
music for his 'Pothe Poni'. After that I worked for 10th Class and Notebook.

How did u met sekhar kammula:
..........................................................

I met Sekhar Kammula after the release of Dollar dreams. And our combination got finalized for Happy Days.

Tell us about Happy Days music?
.......................................................

The project started in January 2007. I had to compose lots of tunes for each song to impress Sekhar Kammula. It is easy to work with Sekhar Kammula as our wavelength
matches. Happy Days music is very close to my heart. It will be surely heart touching and nostalgic. The script of the film is very good and it inspired me to come up with
fine music. Sekhar has given me lot of freedom. I got musicians from Singapore, New
York, Hyderabad and Chennai to work for this album. The sounds used in this album
are very different from what we hear in regular films. There is western influence in
these songs and instruments like piano and guitar strings dominate the music. The
title song of the film has rock background.

Are you also doing background music for Happy Days?
..................................................................................

I composed only songs for my first three films. I am doing both songs and
background music for Happy Days.

Which one is easy, composing songs or doing background music?
........................................................................................

Both are equally important for any film. But composing background music is difficult.
It would become more challenging to do background music for good scenes.

What is your favorite album and favorite song?
............................................................................

I am a great fan of AR Rehman. My favorite album is Vandemataram (AR Rehman)
and favorite song is Tu Hi Re (Bombay film).

Which are your favorite songs in your own films?
................................................................................

Areyrey (Happy Days) and Namaha (10th class).

What are your future projects?
................................................................

I am completely focused on doing the background music for Happy Days now. I am
waiting for the release of Happy Days before committing my next project...
