This is a film that treads a different path altogether even in making a film collectively, for a cause. Even Chief Minister Rajasekhar Reddy is seen in a shot. TV9 Swapna plays a real life role in this. Stage artistes are there to play character roles. You will notice that two persons get elevated – director Bharadwaja for showing commitment for the subject and then Sindhu Tulani for playing the main role impressively. In fact, it is a risky subject for anyone to handle, because it involves two types of killers - police and naxalites. The objective behind this production seems to be to argue against the killings of innocents, generally caught up in cross fire. Even if you call it accident and express an apology for it; you cannot just brush it away saying it as an act committed for social cause. Then who would answer for the killing of an innocent?
The second argument is that of the hundred crore population, those who resort to bloodshed may not even cross one percent of it, which means a crore persons. The rest want nothing but peace. Then how can police or extremists support their cause as for the welfare of the society is the question, the film raises. The film is divided into two significant and contrasting parts, divided by an interval. If you watch the first part you can never guess what is going to happen in the second part of the drama. But the essence of the theme lies only in the second part. Chaitanya (Siva Balaji) and Shanti (Sindhu) are in constant focus. They are childhood friends and their trait is quarreling constantly over petty issues. But parents on either side hope they would marry one day. A third person named Siddarth (Dhanush), Shanti's office colleague, also loves her. When the parents ask Shanti to marry Chaitanya, she becomes adamant and says he is just a friend to her and nothing more. A situation is created then for her to stay away from Chaitanya. And this gap makes her feel for the first time that she is missing Chaitanya. She craves for his company and realizing that she cannot live without him, she travels back to her place and makes it known to Chaitanya. He too is a happy man. On his way to the bus stand to receive her, naxals shoot at a car in which a police officer is travelling. Some bullets hit Chaitanya and kill him instantly.
A shocked Shanti launches a legal war against the killers. Though the naxals express their apology, that won't satisfy her. She registers a case in a police station with the help of a journalist (Swapna). That is the time the government opens doors to naxalites for peace talks. She questions both the government and naxals how they are trying to escape from a crime they committed in murdering an innocent person, in the name of a social cause. There is a prolonged verbal drama, showing Shanti moving door to door fighting for justice. And the whole thing ends up as a kind of soul searching drama.
Chaitanya is projected first as a social worker who goes to the rescue of the needy. Though Shanti does not like it initially, she hugs him with sentimental touch, when he asks her "would you not come to my aid if I get hurt in an accident". Sindhu gets the best role of her career and she meets the demand by displaying good histrionic skills. Siva Balaji too gives a fine performance. Though his role is confined to the first half of the film, the entire film carries the feel of Sivabalaji's presence. Dhanush in the role of Siddarth, who too craves to wed Santi initially and settles finally as her friend and colleague in the war for justice, also impresses. There are many more roles. Theatre artistes fill some and do justice. Music is quite pleasant and supports the first part of the drama well. Dialogue is well written. The film is worth watching.
